Carlos Bolado

Carlos Bolado is a Mexican director, writer, and producer who has crafted an extensive career across feature films and television.

Bolado burst upon the scene with his feature directing debut BAJO CALIFORNIA: EL LÍMITE DEL TIEMPO staring Damián Alcázar and Jesùs Ochoa, which won him two prestigious Ariel Awards for editing and Best First Work. Since then, Bolado has directed acclaimed documentary and feature films including co-directing Academy Award-nominated documentary PROMISES and writing and directing Sundance World Cinema Grand Jury Prize nominee ONLY GOD KNOWS starring Diego Luna and Alice Braga.


Bolado also wrote and directed COLOSIO staring José Maria Yazpik and Kate del Castillo, TLATELOLCO, VERANO DE 68 starring Teresa Ruiz, Cassandra Ciangherotti and Luis Ernesto Franco.

In episodic television, Bolado has directed episodes for Telemundo hits CAMELIA LA TEXANA staring Sara Maldonado and the highly anticipated second season of the network’s most successful series, LA REINA DEL SUR, staring Kate del Castillo, a monumental global production that filmed in eight countries and over 300 locations. Bolado will come back for the third season to direct and executive produce LA REINA DEL SUR 3.


Starting his career as an editor, Bolado worked on LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE directed by Afonso Arau, and served as an editing advisor for Lionsgate’s Academy Award nominated AMORES PERROS directed by Alejandro G. Iñarritu and Pantelion/Lionsgate's INSTRUCTIONS NOT INCLUDED directed by and staring Eugenio Derbez. Bolado most recently directed the series NATURAL BORN NARCO for Jeffrey Katzenberg’s Quibi service. He is currently directing the series MALVERDE for Telemundo staring Fernando Colunga.
